UPDATE 18th January 2021. Pilot sessions now fully booked. Sign up for the next newsletter below if you would like to hear when more places become available.

Do you want to be involved at the very start of this exciting local project? Through the current national lockdown I am running a 3 week long, free-of-charge pilot project for children under the age of 12. Your child will take part in simple, local forest activities, such as making hot chocolate over a fire and exploring the winter woods using a torch.

I thought children's activities weren't happening just now?

Current Scottish Government guidelines (last updated 4th Jan 2021) allow for groups of up to 15 children under 12 to meet for organised non-contact outdoor activities. To keep things simple I am choosing to run with a much smaller group of just 6 children. I have completed SportScotland Covid-19 Officer training and have conducted a thorough Covid-19 risk assessment. I believe it is important that permitted activities take place in order to safeguard children's physical and mental health.

For this pilot project, your child must be between 7 - 12 years of age.

When & where?

The drop-off point will be the Duck Pond at the top of Forester's Way (see Google map below).  Please bring your child along about ten minutes before the session starts, and be ready to collect them on time at the end.

Monday 25th January 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Monday 1st February 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Monday 8th February  3:30pm - 5:30pm

What to wear & what to bring?

We will go on the walk whatever the weather, so please be sure to have everything on the kit list. If there is something you're missing, don't let that stop you from signing up - I have spare equipment I can loan out.

  • Warm clothes

  • Waterproof jacket and trousers

  • Sturdy footwear, ideally boots

  • Hats, glove and scarf

  • Snacks

  • A small rucksack to carry your things.

  • Torch

  • Any personal medication

Does it cost anything?

No, this is totally free of charge. However, please don't turn up without booking as numbers might be exceeded.

Who will be leading the activity?

I will be leading these activities myself, with an assistant instructor. Below is a brief summary of my experience. You can also see more information on my "About" page here.

  • I've been working with children outdoors in various settings since 1998

  • I hold the highest UK instructional qualification (Winter Mountaineering Climbing Instructor)

  • Associate Instructor at Glenmore Lodge (National Outdoor Centre, Aviemore)

  • Lecturer in Outdoor Education - Inverness College 2015 - present

  • I was a registered Teacher of Outdoor Education from 2006 - 2020

  • Lecturer in Outdoor Education - Inverness College

NB this is just a temporary page for the Inverness Online Hub. It will be getting its own permanent site soon, but for now it's piggybacking onto my established hillwalking business whilst I transition from sole trader to registered charity.

How do I sign up?

Update 18 January. The pilot session is now fully booked. I received close to 70 expressions of interest within 24 hours. I will work as hard as I can to progress from the pilot sessions to full scale launch of the Inverness Outdoor Hub.
